Features of the SDC<\/h2>\n

In March 2015 at the Waseda Vision 150 Student Competition, students submitted a proposal titled \u201cJapan\u2019s First LGBT Student Center at Waseda!\u201d. As the proposal won the President\u2019s Award and symposiums and lectures were held by university offices, LGBTQ+ groups and others, the idea gained momentum. Against this backdrop, with the aim of ensuring a fulfilling campus life for a diverse student body\u2014regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality, ability, religion, or age\u2014and of promoting the creation of a campus environment that embraces diverse values and ways of life, the university has established Student Diversity Center by integrating four centers: ICC (Intercultural Communication Center), Accessibility Resource Center(ARC), Gender and Sexuality Center(GS Center), and Student Counseling Center(SCC).
\nAt Waseda University, we also aim to create a more inclusive academic community that fosters new ideas by supporting students from diverse backgrounds in all aspects of their university experience\u2014learning, education, research, and employment. By enhancing every student\u2019s sensitivity to diversity, we aim to foster graduates who understand DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) and are capable of leading society, thereby contributing to development both domestically and internationally.<\/p>\n

The SDC is an implementing organization which provides support to students in collaboration with the Office for Promotion of Equality and Diversity, which is responsible for university-wide policies. Furthermore, SDC promotes diversity holistically throughout Waseda University in close cooperation with the Diversity Promotion Committee (Secretariat: Office for Promotion of Equality and Diversity).<\/p>\n
