Tuition Fees for Extended Students and Students Who Have Not Advanced to the Next Grade

Tuition Fees for Extended Students

Extended students are defined as students whose years of study (not including leaves of absence) exceed the standard years of study. The tuition fees for extended students are calculated based on the number of unfulfilled credits required for graduation at the end of the previous semester, and the amount of tuition is determined by totaling the other fees. The method of calculation and the category of tuition fees for extended students differ depending on the year of admission. For the tuition payment schedule for extended students, please refer to “02_Payment of Tuition Fees > Tuition Payment Schedule” [14].

Standard years of study
Undergraduate: 4 years, Master’s degree (1 year course): 1 year, Master’s degree (2 year course): 2 years, Doctoral degree: 3 years

*However, for undergraduate schools with an advancement system, this refers to students who have been in school for more than three years after being advanced.
*In the case of students who have transferred to another school, this applies to students who have exceeded the standard years of study, including the period of study prior to the transfer.

Tuition for Students Who Have Not Advanced to the Next Grade

If a student does not meet the requirements for advancement in a undergraduate school that has introduced a advancement system, the tuition fees for the student who has not been advanced will be calculated based on the number of unfulfilled credits required for advancement at the end of the previous semester, and the total amount of tuition and other fees will be determined. For details, please refer to the website of your School [15].

Method of Calculating the Number of Unfulfilled Credits

The number of unfulfilled credits will be calculated as follows.

Method of calculating the number of unfulfilled credits
Number of unfulfilled credits = Number of Required credits for degree completion – Number of credits counted toward degree required credits at the end of the previous semester

1) Concept
Total Number of Required credits for degree completion minus Number of credits counted toward degree required credits at the point of completion of the previous semester will be calculated as the number of unfulfilled credits.

2) Treatment of non-completion of required courses
If the Number of credits counted toward degree required credits has been met but there are unfulfilled credits in the required courses, the unfulfilled credits will be calculated as 0 credits. Regardless of the number of required courses not earned, the calculation will be based on the Number of credits counted toward degree required credits.

3) Treatment of the Number of credits not counted toward degree required credits
Credits for courses that cannot be taken as “credits counted toward degree required” or courses not taken as “credits counted toward degree required“ will not be included in the calculation of unfulfilled credits.

4) Treatment of cases where there is a maximum number of credits that can be included toward degree requirements
If there is a limit to the number of credits that can be counted, such as “Students may register for any number of foreign language courses, but no more than 12 credits of foreign language courses will be counted as required credits for degree completion,” the same approach will apply as in ”2) Treatment of non-completion of required courses”. Therefore, if a student has fulfilled the number of required credits for degree completion, including the 18 credits of foreign language courses in an undergraduate where up to 12 credits are counted as required credits, the unfulfilled credits will be zero.
