Extension Center

About the Extension Center

Waseda University launched a correspondence program in 1882 with issuing the textbooks of recorded lectures offered to the students of the University. In 1912, Prof. Charles William Eliot, the former president of Harvard University, visited Waseda University and praised the effort of Waseda University’s correspondence course as the same tackling as the Harvard University with other Boston-area Universities setting up University Extension to extend its academic resources to the general public.
In 1981, launched “Extension Center”, Waseda has long cherished the memory of Prof. Charles William Eliot and in honor of his praise, we named our life-long learning institution as “Extension Center”, and the courses as “Open College”.

We offer a variety of courses from Liberal Arts to Practical Training Program both in- person at the classroom and Online classes. Please check the website (Japanese) for further information about the courses.
