The Hirayama Ikuo Volunteer Center (WAVOC)
Features of WAVOC
WAVOC was established in 2002 as a promoter of social contribution at Waseda University. WAVOC provides opportunities for hands-on learning through “Social Contribution and Volunteer Related Courses” (established by the Global Education Center), “Waseda Volunteer Project” in which students take the initiative under the guidance of WAVOC faculty members with their expertise, and “Events and Open House” to promote awareness of social issues. WAVOC also holds events, open lectures, and study tours to raise awareness of social issues.
In addition, Waseda University has been continuously engaged in reconstruction support activities, such as dispatching a large number of student volunteers to disaster-stricken areas where natural disasters have occurred frequently in recent years. More than 200,000 people have been involved in social contribution and volunteer activities through WAVOC so far. The students who have participated in WAVOC have grown greatly through sweating, working, and being exposed to diverse values through on-the-spot practice and pre- and post-activity learning. We are always looking for volunteers. If you are interested, please visit the office first. The student staff leaders will be happy to help you.
