Student Compensation System (Compensation for Injury)

This is Waseda University’s original compensation system that can be used in the event that you are injured in an accident during your educational or research activities at the university. The amount of compensation will be determined by the university based on a review by an assessment company. In order to be eligible for compensation, there are various conditions, including notification prior to the activity, so please check the procedure carefully when applying.

Student Compensation System (Liability Coverage)

This is a system to compensate for legal damages incurred due to injury to others or damage to others’ property during internship, educational practice, volunteer activities, and regular classes (off-campus experiments and practical training only) approved by the university. Accidents that occur on the way from home to the activity site and back are not covered. In order to be eligible for compensation, there are various conditions, including notification prior to the activity, so please check the procedure carefully when applying.

  • What is Waseda University Student Health Promotion Mutual Aid Association?

The Student Waseda University Health Promotion Mutual Aid Association is a mutual aid organization unique to Waseda University that conducts activities to maintain and promote the health of its members(*), and provides medical benefits and health checkup assistance.
(*)Regular students of undergraduate/graduate students of Waseda University (*Commissioned students, non-degree students, students of the Center for Japanese Language, exchange students, and special foreign trainees are not members.)

  • Scope of Medical Expense Benefits

The Student Waseda Kenkai provides a portion of the out-of-pocket medical expenses (30% of the insurance medical expenses) paid by its members (*) at hospitals in Japan within the annual benefit limit of 60,000 yen based on the request. Please refer to the Student Affairs Section website for details on the medical expense benefit.

  • When you visit a contracted hospital (medical or dental) or receive medicine from a contracted pharmacy

Whenever you visit a contracted medical institution around the campus, be sure to bring your student ID card and insurance card and present them at the counter of the institution. When you visit a contracted medical institution, the contracted medical institution will send your medical and dispensing data directly to the Waseda University Student Health Promotion Mutual Aid Association for processing, so you do not need to apply for medical expense benefits. You do not need to apply for medical expense benefits. Please make sure that your MyWaseda “Account in your name” is registered correctly.

  • When you visit a “non-contracted hospital” or receive medicine from a “non-contracted pharmacy

You are eligible for medical benefits if you receive treatment at a medical institution in Japan. Please fill out the “Application for Reimbursement of Medical Fees” by yourself and apply for it at the reception desk of the Waseda University Student Health Service Center with your receipt (a copy is acceptable). The deadline for application is the 10th day of the third month following the month in which you received medical treatment (e.g., if you received medical treatment in January, the deadline for application is April 10). Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted. Please make sure that your MyWaseda “Account in your name” is registered correctly in advance.
